Oh yes, it's a lot easier to judge in those situations, which is why I don't need to make a long rambly post trying to figure out out :)

I guess for me, the litmus test is always whether someone is turning a discussion of a systemic problem, like discrimination, into a discussion of something personal and individual. That negates the analysis that what a person is experiencing is part of something larger and social.

I think what you're talking about is a subset of what I meant by "avoidance" rather than what most people mean by derailing. Poster 6 is talking about sexism, which is in and of itself just as important and systemic as ableism, yet is a classic derailer imo. And whatever they are saying Poster 4 in a locked post is not derailing the conversation because they are not fully a part of it.
