My last two employers minded a lot, that's why I don't work there any more (I wasn't fired exactly, just asked not to work many hours etc) I got this job specifically because I knew the public service was very flexible, and noone would be too inconvenienced if I took the odd day off work. When I started getting even more sick than that I had a long conversation with my managers and they were very understanding. It does inconvenience them me being sick for extended periods, and they're going to look for someone to fill in for me on a temporary contract while we wait and see if I get better (if not I'll just quit)

I'm currently on unpaid leave for the forseeable future, having used up my annual leave and sick leave (and have been on unpaid leave for large sections of my employment when I ran out of other leave. Not that my previous, casual, jobs had leave at all...). Which means going back down to a single income, which sucks.
