I keep meaning to do a proper post on this but am just too dumb (Mental age of 37, according to the DS, but I do not feel as clever as the 37 year olds I have known) So: Roundup of links on Aussie Net Censorship at Hoyden about Town (Lots of other people have posted about it, but they have a nice list of links)

Just..argh! Bad! Stupid government.

In happier news, I am currently watching Kyle XY. It is fun, in a slightly tacky teen soap opera sort of way.

isn't 37 too old to be smart as a mathematician?

Or you know - parents could take responsibility for their kids and actually monitor their internet usage

If they were talking kiddy porn I'd probably be for it - but really if I just want to wach people pee on each other,. . . . well I"m a bit odd but it doesn't hurt anyone.

Even if they were, in theory, only blocking child porn etc there's the fact that it DOESN'T WORK. It causes huge slowdowns and has lots of false negatives and false positives.

All of which is in addition to the fact that from the sound of things they have no qualms about blocking icky-but-legal things like weird fetish porn etc.

Tis true, we lose our bloom faster than a unmarried girl in a regency romance :)

Oh I know - but I could at lest support it in theory that way - that they were trying to block stuff that is actually harmful - rather than just - here is a list of things we don't like.

As it is if you report a kiddy porn site to the police they just kinda look at you like. . . . and?

I mean it's not even that hard to track down really.

Yeah - the undead-journal thing was a bit weird. I'm guessing it's for halloween?

I was so happy with it I decided to keep it, despite the fact it's not quite true, mathematicians get a few more years before being put on the shelf :)

Which means it will hopefully be gone tomorrow. I do not like zombies :/

I read some more about the blocking thing in the paper. . not happy. Last I'd heard there was an opt out - where you could ring up and say 'hello I would like to look at porn!" but no that's gone not happy that they are blocking out euthanasia and stuff too. Just cause something is illegal doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to find out about it.

Oh, yes, that's the main thing that makes it so terrible, otherwise we could just let the people who want it have it and ignore them (as is the case with the free software filters the last government brought in)
