Hmm. Given that in Singapore at least(*) there's a wide range of "sweet bread bun with meat and a sugar glaze" I'm not sure about that :) Tangent: Actually I think there's an interesting convergent evolution of south east asian candied pork and american candied bacon. Both a bit much for my bland australian palette :)
