I didn't describe it very well: I can walk up 1-2 flights of stairs a day and have it not hurt too much, but the more stairs I walk up past that point the worse it gets. So getting to unisfa isn't too bad, as long as I don't leave and come back. I learned to pack myself a lunch if I was planning on staying long :D Also luckily the knee thing started during my Phd, not when I was a student popping in and out of unisfa between lectures.
There used to be wine and cheese nights in Cameron Hall! I helped run one once! (This was when I still ate cheese, drank the odd bit of wine, and had no problem with stairs. Ah, youth)
