The Roma of Rome: Heirs to the Ghetto System

I...just...ack.

Via [community profile] politics, which is a pretty good low traffic comm with a lot of international news.

*face in hands*

Man, I'm only on the first page of the Politics comm and I can already see a dumbass link concerning the Balkans. It's nice of the poster to ETA with a note saying that the source she links to is "prone to exotification" but really now, if it's obvious (and god, is it ever obvious!) then maybe it would be a good idea not to link it? I'll stick to posting and discussing news concerning my region in my own journal because whenever foreigners have a go at it with news or photos made by other foreigners I get all stabby.

I sometimes think there should be a rule on the internet that if you can't read the language of the country you want to discuss, shut up.

it's also not good for events in places that speak a language other than English to be ignored by the English speaking internet

I don't know how to feel about this. If you're saying that the English-speaking internet would do well to acquaint itself with the rest of the world then I can't disagree (this goes for anything-speaking internet, of course) but if it says that non-Anglosphere places need Anglo attention... that I'm much less sure of.
