I gained a lot more sympathy for slashers when I started encountering the intense anti-m/m hate in Homestuck fandom. Canon m/m ships are dismissed as "out of character" and popular m/m writers get called "mysogynistic yaoi fangirls" even if they also wrote lots of het and femslash, because apparently certain m/f and f/f pairings are "too generic" or something (though this did lead to an amusing meme where people refer to my m/f OTP as "their favourite yaoi")
