Oh, yes, that is definitely a problem. Or taking things I was fine with in canon and writing meta that {i}makes{/i} them screwed up, eg "Bad things happeed to that female character because she INTERFERED WITH MY OTP. She deserves to DIE."

I'm not so good at the not arguing with people bit, but I try not to be too obnoxious about it.
