I have nothing sophisticated to add, but I agree that these things have been repurposed to once again criticise, or even outright hurt/harrass the downtrodden (I've seen very ableist rhetorics along the lines of eugenics for people who can't use plastic straws etc. on Facebook which...I'd like to never see again) once they break out into the wider zeitgeist, or even just become slightly mainstream.

It's...you know, I can see how annoying it is once you start thinking about it and how to stop it from being an inevitability, because it seems like there should be *something* but my mind is helpfully throwing up blanks.
