I had a similar experience with fandom. But also, honestly, toys. We were well well below the poverty line growing up and toys were limited. That I can buy say, blind box toys, or interesting Lego now, is growing into a kind of childhood I was robbed of, due to poverty and circumstance. Those kinds of things are some of the best parts adulthood, imho.
