Oops, posted this here by mistake. Y'all are welcome to tell me how obvious it is too :)

There's a community called "mathsex"?

Yes. I was initially put off by the title but it seems to cut down significantly on the
(a) Boringness and
(b) "help with my maths homework"
that have plagued all the other maths lists I've been on :)

Thanks to you I spent a couple of hours reading past entries of mathsex when I should have been studying for the linear analysis exam I have in 32 hours' time. *mutter*

I'm all the more amused because, before you even posted about maths, I was trying to calculate the odds involved:

"Let me see, based on past evidence, I like approximately 4 in 250 men in my age group, or 1.6%. If the men also like 1.6% of the women in their age group, then the odds of meeting someone are..."

Heh.

Remember those are not independent percentages: the men you get along with are much more likely (though not guaranteed) to like you back than the ones you have no chemistry with.

When was single I used to console myself on what attractiveness I have being unconventional by thinking "A minority of of men like short, pasty, pear shaped women. But my chances of attracting one of those men are quite high since I only have to compete with other short, pasty, pear shaped women, many of whom are too busy trying to be tanned, tall and skinny to make the best of what they've got. So overall my odds may be pretty good" Which is all a bit shallow really but it cheered me up regardless :)
