Since people have ASKED even though I am SICK...(and I may have completely forgotten everything that happened at the con after I am better, it's already pretty fuzzy)
"Race and feminism" panel went pretty well, all things considered. I was feeling fuzzy and grumpy (as it turns out due to incipient throat infection) so had a "dairy free antidepressant brownie(*)"and then was very happy but still pretty fuzzy. So I didn't push things to the edge very much and kind of let the conversation move around where it wanted rather than controlling things. Thus it was fairly light and chatty meandering and afaict not that confronting for anyone. Still, there was some interesting discussion and there were some hardish questions asked (of me and everyone else). I was relieved to find that everyone seemed open to having their POV questioned/criticised without getting all narky, and largely open to taking that criticism on board.
Oh, and as it happens... everyone in the room was white(**). Which on the plus side meant I didn't talk over any POC! (I did find myself saying "Yes, I've heard things can be difficult for bisexual women in relationships with men" at the trans* panel(***) and then going "Wait, I am the only straight person in this room, maybe I should try to not play the expounding expert on this subject")
Also, songvids panel went well apart from cd not containing all the vids I thought it did and me being a lot more fuzzy (the two combined to make me spend a certain amount of time staring at my computer going "WHY WONT YOU WORK??", luckily
mynxii was there to keep things on track with her own fanvids and not-fuzziness)
Bah. I feel SO CRAP. I hope this makes any sense. Will not be replying to comments for a while.
And now I should feed the cat and maybe me...
(*)When we made these we were all "Wait, how much oil and sugar?"
(**)I think! I was pretty fuzzy, my apologies to anyone going "Gee, way to make me feel invisible Dr Antiracist"
(***)Which was a whole different level of panel to mine.
bardiegrub does this sort of thing for a living, and it showed!
