EDIT: So this has turned out to be a controversial post (who'd have thought?) and I have way too much of a headache to deal with it right now. So I hope you don't all kill each other...

Via Hoyden about town we have: a post discussing the effect the fear of going out has on women with a lot of interesting comments.

First, it has many examples of the old White women trying to emphasise the evils of sexism by comparing it to racism trick. *sigh*(*)

But also, some of the commenters make a point I've been trying to articulate: the the problem is not that women are actually in more danger (since we're not), nor is it just that we're more scared. It's also that men's danger is minimised.

Stargate reminder

What: Watch the next 3 "best" episodes of Stargate: "The Fifth Race", "1969" and "Fair Game" (seasons 2 & 3)
When: TODAY. 6pm for a 6:30ish start, Wednesday 22nd October. Any time before 9:00pm is ok if you don't missing bits/being quiet as you come in.
Where: My house. If you're not on the filter for that post (and I suck at filters so that may be lots of people) email/IM/comment etc and I'll tell you my address
Who: Anyone who knows and likes me well enough to hang out for a few hours and would get some enjoyment out of watching SG1. If you haven't seen the show before you'll figure it out, it's not very deep or complex :)
What to bring: Any snack food you wish to eat, and if neccesary your own dinner. I will provide nothing but chairs and a tv(*) :P

Also: I've been prety much constantly under the weather recently, so will probbaly kick people out quite sharply not long after the last episode so I can sleep. Please do not take this personally :)

(*)I'm fine with people having a mass pizza order or something, but since I have such wierd food issues will leave that to you guys to figure out for yourselves. I'll have some menus for local places to hand.

A few things

So, this is the third showing of Stargate and so far it's been different people every time :)

Also, while I was fine this morning I got a sudden bad case of the headachey-dumb this afternoon, so am not feeling up to dealing with comments at ALL. *tries to clarify, realises I'm not really up to posts either* Will keep an eye out for super duper badness but am on the whole not trusting my judgement.
