I feel So Crap right now so just links, to current pieces of legislation the Australian government is pursuing which actively impede the lives of disabled people:

CALL TO ACTIVISM - Many people with disabilities to be excluded from accessible parking under proposed scheme

This strikes particularly close to home for me because if I get much sicker I'll be in much the same boat as Lauredhel, the main difference is I don't drive so can get Cam to drop me off by the door if I have to.

USA, Canada and the EU attempt to kill treaty to protect blind people's access to written material (yeah, we're not in the headline, we're still doing it)

Well, that's all kinds of suck. There are days when I can barely walk around the house without doping myself to the gills on painkillers. If my chronic pain keeps getting worse at the rate it has been for a while I can fully see myself needing an ACROD permit and not being able to get one under that scheme.

As for the US et al disadvantaging blind and reading-disadvantaged people in the name of copyright, I really wish I could say I'm surprised. Sadly, not even the fact that the AU government is blithely following the lead of the US surprises me.

Hmm, I need a good 'angry' icon.

On the ACROD permit, all the folk I know that actually have one meet the criteria suggested. Although I can see edge cases.

On access for blind folk, yes, DFAT sucks.

Not all.

That change in parking scheme really frightens me.

I'm afraid I've been aware of copyright holders having issues with PWD having access to books for some time, but this is so damned blatant. Grrrr.

That sucks! I can't believe they're doing it. What do they stand to gain, really? Or they try to ruin the lives of their citizens for sport?

It's a relief that I don't have to be embarrassed of my governement on this particular issue, at least; we're siding with the right guys.
