A) One at a time, 2 per month $10
B) Two at a time, 4 per month $15-$20
C) One at a time, unlimited $18ish (also two at a time for more)
D) Three at a time unlimited (or 10 dvd limit) $30-$36 (also four, five etc)

As pointed out in this article I found via Google (also this Choice article) they pretty much all offer free trials. *ponders several months straight of free dvds..hmm...*



Every now and then Cam or I would see an American reference "putting something on their Netflix queue" and go "dammit I wish we had Netflix here". A little while ago I came across a flyer for Quik Flix, a somewhat overpriced Australian equivalent, and after a bit of pondering decided to sign up for the 2 week free trial and then the $10-for-2-dvd's a month plan after that.

It was heaps of fun compiling my queue of movies to watch, though the system sent the first two before I gotten it quite in order. I spent two days checking the letterbox excitedly before realising they'd been delivered to my neighbour-unit's locked letterbox and (I'm only mildly ashamed to say) I resorted to masking tape on a stick to get them out.

The first was Revolutionary Girl Utena: the movie, the second a dvd of Radiohead music videos (which I realised I'd already seen, oops) On it's way is "Dead like Me Season 1 Disk 1", and the next few in the queue are Solaris (russian version, "possible long wait"), Full Metal Alchemist Disk 1, The Great Dictator (charlie chaplin film) and Teen Titans Disk 1.

Given the crazy price and semi-random time of arrival I'm only queueing cheerfulish(*) things I really want to see which you can't get at the local video store. Some of these I could theoretically get at Planet but the way I see it the extra dollar is worth it for the convenience and lack of late fees. I'm assuming the scratched Utena disk was an exception, if not I may reconsider my membership.

Cam, by the way, rather went off the idea when he saw the price (he likes watching things in chunks) and the fact he couldn't find much he wanted to see.

(*)Sometimes I'm just really not in the mood for angst. Though I may add a couple of darker films when my trial expires and I get 2 weeks to watch each dvd.

why the russian version of solaris?

I've heard it's good, and I've seen the other one. It's only first on my list due to the "long wait" thing, since that seemed the best way to raise my chances of seeing it at all.

Firstly, this is not a plug. My dad uses this and it seems to work for him so I though I'd ask - Have you tried BigPond movies (http://www.bigpondmovies.com/user/help.php?page_name=help_plans)?

From the looks of things they're only good value for people using Bigpond, which we're not. Thanks for the thought though. *have amended post with more info*

I saw a QuikFlix shop-a-docket voucher for a cheap month of D (from memory $5-10, but I'd have to check), but I'm not sure what conditions were attached.

I came accross that on the website: $5 for unlimited rentals for a month, pretty good value. I am of course inelgible due to already having had a free trial :/ Post offices also have $10 for D for a month dockets.
