Hello all!
First off it's probably worth explicitely stating that now that I have a grownup job I won't have as much spare mental energy to devote to online stuff, so may become less communicative in terms of replies to posts and comments. It's not because I hate you. (At least, no more than I did before)
Had my first day of actual work today. The first day was spent organising a log in and signing forms etc as well as reading the insane amount of misc documentation hanging around the office (it unfortunately took me till like 4pm to find instructions on loading some example data to put it all in context) The second was spent waiting for some data that was supposed to arrive the day before, exploring the gym and canteen (there's a gym! And a canteen!), totally finishing the manual, going for a walk with my (quite nice) boss(*) to deliver stuff, surfing the net, learning how to play "spider solitaire(**)", drawing pictures of my desk, a tree, and myself, and eventually being sent home by my apologetic boss. Apprently the data arrived like 5 minutes later :)
So, armed with actual data I started work this morning. Currently a lot of it's a mix of scary-newness and bland dullness but overall I enjoyed it well enough and I'm sure I'll get into a work-rhythym. Remembering to recharge my pda so I have music to listen to will definitely help, as will not eating things at morning tea which make me sleepy :) (There was a potluck going away today which I felt a little odd being at. Apparently such things are very common(***), this may counteract any positive benefits created by the gym unless I learn to resist the free timtam's siren song)
(*)Not my actual boss per se, but the voice of authority who gives me my instructions and is turned to when noone else knows what to do. I need a little organisational chart like we got at my old job, it's all a bit confusing.
(**)Spellcheck tried to replace my original misspelling with "spoliator". What on earth is a spoliator?
(***) Heh, not people going away, just parties. I get the feeling any excuse will do :)

Further googling reveals it refers to people destroying evidence in trials. Now to wait until I next watch a crime drama so I can go "aha! He's spoliating!".
