Because no lj is complete without a lyrics post

O we will know, won't we?
The stars will explode in the sky
O but they don't, do they?
Stars have their moment and then they die

From "Are you the one that I've been waiting for?" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

Posted because I feel like posting them every time they come up on my ipod, I think I like the words so much because the lyrics up to that point have implied that the answer to the song title is "yes", but this section implies that it's only "maybe", since I pretty much only like love songs where the love is doomed :) Also it's just a really lyrically interesting song.

Lyrics I like for similar reasons (also the pun):

If love is a bolt from the blue then what is a bolt but a glorified screw,
And that doesn't hold nothing together.

from One Crowded Hour by Augie March (a song I don't actually like that much, but the lyrics are interesting)

Hmm. Not very good at expressing why I like music am I? *goes back to listening to it*

You're welcome :)

Everybody likes that bit of wordplay from One Crowded Hour. Glenn Richards is a very cool lyricist (hope you've heard their earlier albums too!). Don't know about the Cave lyric though ... strikes me as a bit shit by his standards to be honest.

So my tastes are both prosaic and dull, huh? :)

This is why I tend not to talk about my taste in music much: I like a lot of "good" music, but for vague, rather shallow reasons. I gave up reading music reviews since I just don't think about music that concretely.

"So my tastes are both prosaic and dull, huh?"

Thanks! You just neatly summarised what I'd been failing to articulate.

...

Not!

You're the fourth or fifth person (including me) who's made reference to that particular line from OCH and how excellent it is, fusing as it does a raconteurish world-weary cynicism with an over-par joke before bathetically drowning itself in sorrow and whiskey.

As for the Cave bit, well, if you don't like my opinion, you can always de-friend me :-)

*rereads my previous comment*

Huh. That did not come out the way it sounded in my head, sorry it was all blarg :/ I shouldn't post when I have a headache! (I ended up going home and sleeping all afternoon)

I have Augie March's first album, something about their later stuff doesn't quite work for me. And if I was to start defriending people whose opinions on music differed from mine, [livejournal.com profile] distantcam would have to be the first to go, and then I'd be in all sorts of touble :)
