So...I'm one of those people who is occasionally inspired to do crazy huge projects. These generally fall flat quite quickly when I run out of interest (ACOS being a rare exception) I have been seized by the inspiration for another project recently, and would like you all to tell me why it's a bad idea, since if I start it'll be hard to extricate myself.

Basically I'd like to start an lj community [livejournal.com profile] fan_comics for people to post fancomics in, like a more broad [livejournal.com profile] hpcomics. Afaict there's currently nowhere on the internet like that, apart from a few scattered and sparse archives and webrings.

The problem is that once I started it I'd have to stick with it and moderate it. Now I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be all that popular, so that wouldn't be all that onerous but still. Moderating an internet forum is craziness on a stick. And oh god the badly drawn porn I will have to at least skim over :(

I first got hit with this idea like six months ago but managed to fob myself off with "If you have that much free time why don't you do all the other stuff you should be doing", but it hit me again last night with even more force. Help! Tell me why this is baaad! Though just saying that fancomics are bad is unlikely to sway me much, because I like 'em :P

Not helping!

You know I am very tempted to run it, but with a strict "PG or less" policy until/unless someone else volunteered to mod that stuff. If nothing else that would cut down on traffic :) And with lj being all crazy with the banninating stick it pays to be cautious.

Yeah, that would cut down the traffic like whoa. You could ask for mod help?

Well, yes, but I'd need the community to exist and have members before I could ask any of them to help run it :)

And hey, a censored community is better than none.

True. Therefore you should make the comm to start it off!

Er, wait, I mean, NOOOO DON'T DO IT DR SOPHIE!!! >.>

Reasons to not start an lj community:
- It'll suck up what little free time you currently have
- Stress
- Saying it won't be popular has guaranteed that it will be amazingly popular and will be even more work
- Stress
- Attempted coups
- Stress
- I'd divorce you :)

Well, you're probably right about the stress.

But on the plus side, you'd divorce me, so maybe I should do it...

*gdr*

Can't you find someone else to do it? I think its a good idea, but don't look at me. Except for the fact that whoever you ask will probably do it wrong and mess it up and miss the entire point.

Don't do it Sophie. It's a good idea, but just find a good idea's adoption agency.

find a good idea's adoption agency

Man, that would rock.

I should start one!

(joking :))
