PROMPTS OFFICIALLY CLOSED.

The last time I asked for fanart prompts I came to the horrible realisation that I had no idea how to shade dark skin and went on a quest to draw more dark skinned characters until I got better.

That worked out pretty well, but there's still lots of other holes in my repertoire (I can't get my own body shape right, for example). Beyond the fact this limits me as an Artist, it also contributes to the invisibility of those outside the "default". Fans of these sorts of characters are pretty neglected fanart-wise!

So, I'm looking for prompts for fanart featuring characters who are as many as possible of:

  • darker skinned
  • have non-stereotypically european features like epicanthal folds or an afro
  • overweight
  • under 16 or over 40 (ish)
  • visibly disabled or scarred etc.
  • Otherwise outside the physical norm for (fan)art in a realistic way (no centaurs :P(*))

Did I miss anything? Visual fandoms (movies/tv/comics etc) only please, since I am going to need the reference pics not to screw up completely. I'm also trying to get the hang of non-G rated/gen stuff, but nothing above PG please. Nothing too squicky. NO ZOMBIES. EDIT: Some fandoms I'm familiar with, but I'm willing to try something I'm not. EDIT: I don't want suggestions of characters, I want particular images you'd like to see, eg this queerlygen prompt, Saving Face: Wil - babysitting/looking after her sister.

Having just watched "Sleeping Beauty" for the first time I am definitely going to have to try and think of something with Merryweather :)

If any other fanartists see this and are inspired by the prompts or general idea that's all to the good! My tablet is acting up, so I will probably be REALLY slow, and don't guarantee I'll get around to them all.

(*)Unless they are also outside the norm in a realistic way. It might also be fun and educational to do prompts for characters with unrealistically unusual appearances (Wings! Green skin! Tentacles!), but this is not that post.

EDIT: Completed prompts

And while I'm on the topic of The Middleman, how about some art of Wendy and Ida snarking at each other?

Kendra from Buffy the Vampire Slayer staking someone/thing?
Thursday, November 5th, 2009 07:31 am (UTC)
I want Kendra, Nikki Wood, Xin Rong, and Naayee Neizghani. I want them NOT BEING DEAD, and NOT BEING KILLED. (I mean, seriously, we get Slayers of color, but we only get to see them when they're about to be dead?)

I would love something showing Kendra as inheriting the legacy of the other three. Kendra training, while being watched/shadowed/coached by the others? Kendra fighting, while being watched/shadowed/helped by the others?

Oooh, um, Babylon 5, Dr. Franklin that time he was in a wheelchair after he got stabbed, being pushed by Marcus. Looking annoyed at the fact that it's an INCREDIBLY chipper Marcus pushing him around.

And PotC, Tia Dalma/Calypso kissing Davy Jones (either in squiddy form or not)

Can I ask for Foreman (House MD) fanart? The actor fits only one or two of your points, but it's canon that he was overweight as a child, so I'm asking for a childhood scene. He has a brother (whom I thought was younger, but wiki is not helping me), with whom he's distanced now, so I would like to see them playing together. :D

(Er, free feel to ignore if the prompt is not fun or something!)

ETA: deleted and reposted for poor phrasing. I'm sorry.

Miranda Bailey from Grey's Anatomy only fits two of your specific points (darker skin, would be classified as at least "overweight", question-begging as that term is), but she is also short (5'/1.52m according to IMDB), which I reckon is a suitable third point.

One of my favourite scenes of hers was a very brief one quite early in the series, when she's on her way out from work dressed up to meet her husband on their wedding anniversary, and she stops for a moment to talk to Derek Shepherd. I think it's the first time we see her not wearing scrubs, and she looks gorgeous. It's such a short scene but it's a big leap in her character development — prior to this we'd only been shown her very focused and stern work personality.

So, I would like to see Miranda Bailey out on a date with her husband Tucker (6'5"/1.96m according to IMDB). Up to you if the scene is dancing or chatting over a meal or whatever. Let me know if you'd like me to hunt through and get you some stills of the scene I mentioned above.

I am having the worst laptop day ever. My post has been deleted twice so I am not adding links.

The Outsiders. Thunder and Grace Choi, being all couple-y in a nice sweet kinda way (rather than a very little clothing kinda way).

Um, I have no idea what comics these guys fall under, but its the Arrow family. Lian Harper (daughter of Roy Harper (Red Arrow) and Cheshire) being babysat by Connor Hawke (Green Arrow II and Roy's brother basically). Lian should be really happy, Connor looking really nervous, and not being bleached for a change.

Er, any questions, ask, I'm not going to push my luck...

Tendou Souji, from Kamen Rider Kabuto.

Or, or, you could draw Ryoutarou as ALL the Imajin characters in Kamen Rider Den-O.

Okay I'm giving you slender boys, but they're at least Japanese.

It's not a visual fandom, but it suddenly occurred to me that Daja from Tamora Pierce's Circle books is dark-skinned, her hair is styled in many braids, she's built like a smith (so stocky and muscled), she's 14 and one of her arms is encased in living metal, which covers a fair few of your bases...

I know covers are rarely a good indication (somehow Trisana on the covers never actually looks overweight to me) but there are some here and here.

So if you are feeling enthusiastic, I would love to see Daja at work constructing some intricate - maybe a metallic dragon (to go with Tris' living glass dragon).

OK, I'm half a month late but nobody asked for Miles Vorkosigan!

I know you said visual fandoms but I'd really really really love to see young (early teen?) Miles stuck in a hospital bed in traction with casts on both legs and being incredibly twitchy because of all the restless physical energy he's built up.

For that matter, one of the later photos with Miles and Mark together at an official function - both 4 feet shorter (?) than all the other males and trying to look like they don't know each other, but with the only difference in their appearance being their respective weights. I'm crap at remembering which book is which but this is when Mark first came to Barryar and is at his largest.

And to take pity on you, something more visual - I'd love to see Zoe from Firefly in Serenity's kitchen because she's been asked to cook and feeling incredibly uncomfortable because it's really not something she feels at home doing. Wash propped up at the table with one arm and one leg heavily bandaged, watching her fondly because his wife loves him so much will even cook for him when he's hurt. :)

Do you know X-Men, either movie or comic-verse? Professor Xavier having an argument with Storm about school curriculum - she's winning.

There :)

Way, way late, I know, and a show about American football, so prolly not up your alley, either. However:

Jason Street uses a wheelchair as the outcome of a first-episode football injury. (He's spent all but ten minutes of the series using a chair, but if you google "Jason Street" almost all the shots are of him pre-injury!) During 1x19 Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes, he reclaims football for himself via coaching his replacement. (Some ableist language about bipolar in the first half of that clip. The bit about Street reclaiming football via coaching is right near the end.) I'd love to see one of Street coaching Smash (the black player in that clip) to be a quarterback -- not many black players become quarterback, and that came up in one of Smash's plotlines. A player getting ready to pass is the iconic I'm-a-quarterback pose -- in this case, though, without the helmet and pads.

(Actually, what I'd really rather is simply Jason goofing around with a football and the others, playing catch, but the character has limited hand dexterity: he can catch a football, but he can't get the proper grip on a football to throw it anymore. That hasn't been a plot point yet (I'm only just finishing the first season), but it doesn't seem respectful of the character -- or people who have that injury -- to overlook that for a sake of a fun bit of art.)
