Final fanart prompt: The time Gregor had the north tower demolished with a gravitic imploder lance for [livejournal.com profile] black_samvara

The passage from A Deeper Season (a great Gregor/Miles AU):

"...there's a gravitic imploder lance downstairs in the armory."
"Really?" Ivan said, diverted. "I've never seen it."
"Not the public armory."
"Has it ever been used?"
Gregor coughed. "Not for, uh, traditional combat." Ivan waited.
"I, uh, had them use it to demolish the old clock tower," Gregor admitted finally.
"Really? And you didn't let me come watch? How was it?"
"Most satisfying," Gregor said reminiscently.

And yes, I based the tower on the UWA clock tower, because why not :D I spent ages trying to get it to work as a more complete picture (with backgrounds, other figures etc) but it refused to come out, so I decided to stick with something simple.

The lance is a combination of things (including some very helpful suggestions from the fine folk at [livejournal.com profile] lmbujold), but mostly ended up being based on vehicle mounted lasers from this page.
The uniform is based on various historical and modern russian uniforms, especially http://community.livejournal.com/vintagephoto/3448919.html and http://www.daylife.com/photo/07Brg7uezX1Fs
And finally I took the Vorbarra crest from this page (the fanfic explicitly says the colours are silver and black)

Oh My God that's AWESOME.

I love the way the clock tower is distorting and I love his little face!

Aw, thanks, I'm glad you like it.

That's so cool - It's odd that even though that looks nothing like the Gregor in my head it's till instantly recognisable. Somehow I always image Gregor too dignified to have that expression on his face - even if no one is looking. To me this seems more like how Ivan is imagining that scene...

Yeah, it is maybe a bit too wildly emotional for Gregor, though as someone on the lmbujold comm said, it's a society that's all about things that go boom so he'd be allowed to get a little excited :)

It's funny how different people's conceptions of book characters are isn't it? (well, when there's no film adaptation) I've seen some very interesting ideas about Taura! One problem I have is that I have fairly low reading comprehension of visual description so my mental image often directly contradicts canon, and so I see some fanart, think "Pfft! That's wrong!" and then on rereading realise it isn't :) For a long time I imagined Gregor as portly pale and short, for example, despite the many descriptions to the contrary.
