So I'm tossing up going to the swancon bbq. On the one hand, it's an awful lot of effort, on the other I would like to go(*). Cam is plausibly going to be too busy to give me a lift, and I don't want to organise a lift with anyone else in case I suddenly have to cancel. (The energy it takes to be there far outweighs the energy it takes to get there assuming I can find a low-walking public transport option)

Anyway, after much messing about with the Transperth website (and ringing their info line who had no idea what suburb Kings Park was in), looking at google maps it occurred to me that the best way to get there might be to catch a bus to the corner of winthrop ave/thomas rd and walk through the park.

Is this plausible? I don't think I've ever entered the park from that side so I have no clue and don't want to end up looking up at a cliff or fence or something (like I would if I took the transperth site's advice and caught the cat to Mounts Bay hospital. Clearly their algorithm does not consider vertical distance)

(*)I know they said to rsvp, but since I couldn't eat much last time, and now my diet's even MORE restrictive, I can't see me turning up being much of an inconvenience. I'll bring my own munchies and pay a donation like I did last time.

I can't really see that any bus would get you much closer to that bit of parkland than you already are at Charlies! The closest major intersection is Winthrop and Aberdare. (I'm not sure what you mean by corner of Winthrop and Thomas - they're the same road.)

I don't suppose you can afford to grab a cab, if you can't walk it? Charlies to Synergy should be less than a five minute drive - and that's only because cars have to go the long way round. As the crow flies, it's well under half a km.

Or is it in a different part of the park, and someone mistyped somewhere?

Oops, yes, that's where I meant.

Oh yes, a taxi is a definite possibility to cover any final hurdles, but then I'd still want to minimise distance :)

Yes, it's quite feasible - it's a pretty gentle grade. http://www.bgpa.wa.gov.au/o/content/view/394/ has a map of the tracks.

Hey, thanks! That's quite useful.

assuming synergy is the one I think it is, you take the closest-to-kings-park charlies stop, and walk straight down aberdare towards kings park. Go across the lights and straight onto the path through the bush, and when you get to the internal road on the other side the park should be just across the road!

Thanks! I really should know these things after nearly 30 years in this city :D

We will be going and are more than happy to give you a lift if you want one as we can take the route that drives us straight past your house (or close enough to straight past that it equates as straight past in my mind!) :)

I think you have doof's number. If you want to take this option, please let us know.

I have thoughts that we will not be there extensively long, so you are more than welcome to a lift back as well.... I have a feeling I am going to be so exhausted by mid afternoon it won't be funny!

Oh, that would be pretty awesome, assuming you don't mind the possibility of me smsing you tomorrow morning and saying "Actually, I may stay home". And going back I'm sure I can catch a lift to a train station if nothing else.

I do not appear to have either of your numbers though, unless I saved it under some unintuitive name.

Not a problem.

*sends email* Hmm, maybe I should have also asked for your address; I only remember it to within a couple of streets...
