Defending marriage

Curently killing time on cams new iPad in the dentists surgery while he has a tooth extracted. (heh, it automatically capitalized iPad. Grr and put the z in capitalized)

Anyway, at the perth train station beforehand cam said "did you see that woman 'defending' marriage? Totally code for being anti gay marriage"

And sure enough a few moments later she approached us.

Her: are you in favor of marriage?
Me: I'm in favor of marriage for all people
Her: good! Then would you like to make a donation or come to our rally?
Me: that depends, are you in favor of marriage for same sex couples?
Her: ... No
Me: then you're not in favor of marriage.

And then we walked away, with her saying a bit belatedly "but marriage is between a man and a woman..."

(would have posted this to alias-sqbr but am logged in here and may have to get off at any minute)

I love this. I can even imagine the puzzled look and skipping-needle sound effect as you totally broke her script. Bonus points for pwning her in the process. ^_^

Pity the Apple tablet is set to US spellings. I wonder if you can change that at all?

Word. A few years back, I got tired of the way the dialog was being framed so that "marriage" meant male/female and all marriages required an adjective, and refused to play along anymore. (Also, "family." Not something that just straight people do.) You want to talk about protecting marriages and protecting families? Great. Protect my marriage; protect my family.

Go you *applause*

I'm doing election volunteering atm, so coming in contact with the Family First marriagehomophobia crew a fair bit. I'm amazed that they don't seem to expect a response, they go deer/headlights at the most diplomatic of rebuttals.

Either they have seriously unskilled volunteers, or it's 100% conservative Family Values privilege. Because really, who else approaches people in public about their family structure options and doesn't even *consider* that they may get a rebuttal?
