A good weekend

First I'd just like to say sorry to all the people whose parties etc we missed this weekend, neither I nor Cam were feeling up to socialising and we had lots to do.

On the plus side: we did lots :) (Mostly rather dull chores etc)

The one I'd particularly like to mention is watching the movie "Juno". It's totally awesome, it manages to be a film about teenage pregnancy without becoming either a cliched paean to traditional family values or a depressing exploration of the cruelty of modern life (ie, it doesn't hit you over the head with a Moral Of The Story). The characters are actually 3 dimensional! Even the unsympathetic ones! Juno herself manages to remain cynically funny and non-schmoopily-maternal all the way through. I feel like taping the creators of "Knocked Up"'s eyes open and making them watch it.

Also, the writer, Diablo Cody seems like a really interesting person, I'm somewhat tempted to buy her book "Candy Girl: A Year in The Life of an Unlikely Stripper".

We also drove to Hillaries for lunch on Sunday so I could build up my hours. Are there any other interesting far away places people recommend? Next week we're pondering Wanneroo Mini Golf and Botanic Gardens, and then in the future maybe some national parks or even New Norcia.

I don't think we'd go anywhere that far just for a day trip. I'd say "I guess we could drive to Terracon" but HOPEFULLY I'll be done by then.

Juno is a seriously great film. I heartily recommend finding the soundtrack also, it's neat.

New Norcia is a great place to drive, too! Bakery there is excellent. You might also consider driving to Araluen Botanic Park (http://www.araluenbotanicpark.com.au) up in the Roleystone Hills. It's awesome. (I used to work there!)

By coincidence, Cam heard the "I am a vampire" song in a shop playing the soundtrack just before we saw the movie, we were both curious to see what scene it was played in and were disappointed that it was just the credits :)

You could drive up to Mundaring Weir. Or drive to the caves in Two Rocks/Yanchep.

Yes, mundaring weir is definitely on the possibilities list. Apparently there's a really good tourism centre there too with maps and stuff. Caves might be interesting too, though I think we did enough caving for a bit in Margaret River.

We live not that far from Araleun with us being in maddington and the almost five years we've lived in maddington we still haven't made it there yet but people keep telling me its great including my sister and her carers and my mum *sigh*.

I like the hills in Orange grove way but its better to go in Winter , right now its way too damn hot , we're planning to go sometime in Winter and Kalamunda and Mundaring is nice near the Dam.Mundaring also has the best award winning pizza place .

Another place I like going to is York and the tin horse highway .

Yes, we've been to that pizza place twice, mmm... but getting ALL my hours that way would be somewhat off a break from the diet :D (Also their pizzas don't really suit cheeselessness)

The boy and I did mini-golf for his birthday; it was great! There was laughter, there were tears and controversy about who had won and who cheated harder. *happy memories*

I'm very fond of Serpentine Falls as a good place to visit. Also, if you drive through Pickering Brook or Roleystone, you can often find fruit places open (although I'm not sure about this time of year). Yanchep National Park, John Forrest National Park, York, Toodyay, Northam are all reasonable places to go for a bit of a drive. Similarly any of the beaches are a reasonable distance from you. Taking a camping holiday (for a broad definition, including use of chalets) is also a good way to get extra hours of driving in - Jurien Bay, Augusta are both reasonable distances and have plenty of accomodation.
