I just got back from Terracon (ok, first I checked my email etc) and it was great. Totally what I needed after all that stress.

I spent the whole time trying unsuccessfully to practice this speech I needed to learn for tonight, only to discover (a) They changed their mind and I only need to learn a small part and (b) I misremembered, training is tomorrow. Oh well :)

You can see my photos at our gallery, but there's a gazillion so I'll give a brief overview.

First off, Donnely River is gorgeous (The campsite. The river itself is kind of underwhelming). The kangaroos, emus and parrots are really friendly, to the extent that you kind of have to fend them off any time they decide you might conmcievably be about to feed them. Also, as Colm learnt, it is Very Important not to leave bags of rubbish outside where they can get to them.

There's even a General store, which every day from 5-6pm has free wine, cheese and crackers.

Next to our hut was Katies amazing hut of culinary delights (the waffles are penguin shaped!). They had so many snacks at the end they started just giving them away, it was great. Though my reflux meant saying no many of them and other unhealthy vices, including the apparently very nice ciders from nearby Bridgetown.

I didn't do many activities, mainly I just hung out with people (I also learnt the rules of croquet). The larpers did look like they had fun though :) The TARers seemed ok with one of their tasks being, ingeneuously in my opinion, "peel a lot of potoatoes". The one thing I did do was the quiz night, WHICH WE WON. One of the best things (and here I'm restricted by my self imposed PG rating) was that next to us was "Half a F.. darn Point" who lost last years by half a point. Geuss how much we beat them by :D Also there was a competition to read out a line from Alien, which I won despite having never seen the film. My prize was Snakes on a Mother..darn Crane. Which was then elected God. All of which proves that I am the super coolest person ever (trust me, I have a Phd in maths)

On the last night Katie and her team of loyal minions made a crazy huge delicious meal of roast. Which was kind of late but they were feeding around eighty people.

Anyway, all in all, it was a great way to celebrate handing in my Phd.

It was crane, not a plane.

Sounds like fun! One of these years I'll get around to going to Terracon. BTW, can we tempt you into coming to see POTC with us on Friday? *tempt, tempt* As an aside, if you do, you stand a good chance of seeing a nice practical joke played. I've been working on this for WEEKS!

That is sooooo not big enough to be a PhD. Unless it was an EXTREMELY good PhD. And it looks German.

I should really get some sleep.

Yes, it's just a paper. I didn't have any complete copies of my thesis to hand when I packed :)

Not actually in German, just maths :P
