UNEXPECTED NAKED MOHINDER

Admittedly my main thought was "Ewww, slimy". But at least he's pretty again :)

All my other complaints about characterisation on this show pale in comparison to the whole "Elle is a sociopath and always has been -> Elle used to be nice but HRG broke her -> Elle has a moment of pure redemption with Sylar and finds peace -> Sylar +Elle =Bonny and Clyde" thing. I have lost my faith in the show as a result, before now I trusted them to at least attempt a veneer of continuity between adjacent episodes. Because I was/am dumb.

But I can't quit the show because of stuff like the "everyone loses their powers" moment. I was not expecting that and it was awesome. Though of course we've seen the future and they all have their powers, even people like Mohinder who would never ask for them back (and if he did shouldn't get the broken powers). And no, the fact that's an alternate future shouldn't change things, since the eclipse is a natural event that would presumably have happened either way. Though surely people (ie the Company. And certainly Adam, how many eclipses has he seen?) would have noticed if their powers turned off last time. Hmm.

I hope Hiro gets his adulthood back. And maybe some extra, I think the child-like thing was overplayed enough before.

Me: You know, it's actually kind of surprising that they've had a haitian character for two and half seasons and only now got around to a cliched voodoo plot.
[livejournal.com profile] distantcam: Actually they did one in the comics in season one.
Me: Ah.

Greg Beeman: Sendhil was basically butt-naked except for like this tiniest little g-string...
Sendhil Ramamurthy: Oh, it wasn't that tiny.
Greg: Well, I mean... in the front it was huge...
Sendhil: Yeah!

UNEXPECTED NAKED MOHINDER

My first thought here was "was there a peepee?"

Then I realised I didn't know if Mohinder was a guy or a girl. Then I remembered that Heroes is a TV show so there's not likely to be surprise penis (there was a suprise penis in some movie I got taken to the other day... I was a little shocked, I didn't think they could do that).
Thursday, November 27th, 2008 10:14 pm (UTC)
Heh, yeah, I rewatched "Room with a view" recently, and was reminded of the "Guys swimming" scene mum always made me close my eyes for as a kid :D

And no, no peepee, he falls down and lands on his stomach in a carefully choreographed movement :)

So they're following the 24 school of plot continuity?
Thursday, November 27th, 2008 10:15 pm (UTC)
It would appear so :/

WHERE'S THE PIC DAMMIT!
I have skipped reading the post as I'm not up there yet. I was hoping for Pics!!!
Thursday, November 27th, 2008 10:16 pm (UTC)
Heh, sorry :D I actually looked for some after reading your comment, but the episode is too new to have been capped. (And no, I am not capping you an image) It's not a very sexy scene, anyway, that's one reason it was so unexpected :)

Wait, here you go: http://superherofan.livejournal.com/360632.html

See the effort I go to, scouring Mohinder/Sylar comms just to make you happy..*cough*
Saturday, November 29th, 2008 11:20 am (UTC)
Gosh...um.. I think I agree with some of the commenters - I don't know if I am squicked or will be in my bunk!

Dreams will be interesting tonight...
Hee!

And all for me? You are teh awesomest!

*shifty eyes* Yeeessssss, it's not that I was reading the comm and happened find the images, oh no... :D

Cos, you know, I believe you
ahuh ahuh
Thursday, December 4th, 2008 12:29 am (UTC)
Well that's the important thing :)
Thursday, November 27th, 2008 03:25 pm (UTC)
Yeah, the characters are all over the place. But despite my wincing at Sylar and Elle's constantly shifting personalities, I think they're so great together. :P

Also regarding Hiro, I don't know whether they know what to do with him (or anyone?). He does play his part so well, and he's funny and all, but I think the writers are too afraid to let him actually experience any character growth. Surely keeping him and Ando as light comic relief isn't completely mutually exclusive from letting him grow.

The total-eclipse-seen-from-everywhere-in-the-world-at-the-same-time thing bothers me. As does the fact that this magical Total Eclipse seems to have happened twice in as many years. I'm pretty sure that doesn't happen.

I do actually like the no-powers thing, though. I mean, Peter seems to be closer to the awesome Season 1 Peter I remember when he doesn't have his powers. :P

Oh, I think all of the Elle/Sylar dynamics are interesting, I just don't think they make a lot of sense concurrently.

Heh, yeah, that bugged me too, but as a mildy annoying buzz compared to the deafening roar of everything else :)

I do actually like the no-powers thing, though. I mean, Peter seems to be closer to the awesome Season 1 Peter I remember when he doesn't have his powers. :P

Yes, and I like the idea of the characters having to prove themselves without them.
Friday, November 28th, 2008 06:30 am (UTC)
did we actually see the eclipse from everywhere in the world or just various locations along a similar longitude? (I can't remember)

I'm actually not put off by the Elle thing at all... I see her more as the borderline personality character that has a screwed up sense of self identity from her messed up upbringing and doesn't know what she really wants, so keeps switching between good/bad/happy/angry/scared etc, and they've put her with Sylar and his own good/bad conflict and so now as a pair they keep switching back and forth.

As for the future-with-powers, I was thinking perhaps it is just during the eclipse that they have no powers. Or maybe it's between eclipses- the first one turned their powers 'on', this one 'off', the next one 'on' and so forth, and from wikipedia on solar eclipses "At least two and up to five solar eclipses occur each year on Earth, with between zero and two of them being total eclipses.".

But again: wouldn't the company have noticed this pattern before? They've been dealing with powered people for decades. Unless this one is different.

The idea that they will turn of, and then turn on again some time down the road (rather than by the next episode) is pretty interesting though.
Friday, November 28th, 2008 07:03 am (UTC)
I'd really have to watch the episode again, but did any of the old-school group actually express confusion? Maybe they did know it was going to happen but we don't yet know that they knew. Though thinking about it Noah didn't know why Claire wasn't healing, but maybe he was pretending for some reason... he did seem incredibly intent on keeping Claire safe coming up to the eclipse. But I can't think of any reason he wouldn't have explained the situation to his family.

Oh one thing I did have a problem with during the episode was how does the Haitian know his powers aren't working? I thought he'd be more likely to think his powers were working REALLY well. :P

Ooooh. Ooh. Interesting theory! I mean I don't think it's 100% compatible with their actions, but that doesn't mean it isn't true :D And certainly Arthur was very prepared.

Agreed about the Haitian. Though he has the memory wiping ability too, maybe he was doing that at the time.
Friday, November 28th, 2008 10:08 am (UTC)
Adam, at the very least, would have experienced some eclipses.
Friday, November 28th, 2008 10:11 am (UTC)
Actually, if eclipses took powers away from one group of people and then gave them to another group - that would be pretty cool, having a never-ending migration of powers, but obviously it would contradict a helluva lot of Heroes history.

(retcon? in my Heroes S3? it's more likely than you think!)
Friday, November 28th, 2008 11:16 am (UTC)
Ahaha, yeah, they make it that noone we know had any powers before the last eclipse, and play the old flashbacks out of context with new material to make it look like it was always that way :D

Ooh! And HRG had powers back then! And so did Chandra and Sandra! And Mohinder too, he just forgot! Not to mention Lyle...
