[Poll #1372284]

I looked back over my twitter feed today, apart from the replies to other people's tweets I could be adequately modeled by an AI which spit out an equal mix of geek links, tv comments, and health complaints.

It depends how it is used. If it repeats things your already saying on LJ, or includes 1/2 of conversations with other people: irritating.

If I already follow the twitter feed elsewhere (such as facebook status updates, or twitter itself): irritating.

Otherwise: convenient.

So, overall, irritating then? :)
Friday, March 27th, 2009 08:16 am (UTC)
Usually. But most people seem to have figured out how to turn off replies now though, and it sounds like you don't meet any of the other criteria, so I voted: convenient for you.

Ahh. Oh I'm not going to use it myself, there's too much chaff and not enough wheat :)

Utterly irritating, with the one exception that if you have realised you never make a normal post to your LJ and don't plan to in the future, it's OK.
Friday, March 27th, 2009 03:06 am (UTC)
Mm, in that case I guess people can always defriend you and if they want just watch your twitter.

Heh. The chances of me ever being happy with only expressing myself via 140 character blocks are pretty low.

Even though several folks on my friends list do it I find it irritating. Please don't add another one to the lot (though I recognize that ultimately you decide). I am on twitter, and if you want me to, I can read you there.
Thursday, March 26th, 2009 12:02 pm (UTC)
Oh never fear, I hate it and have no intention of using it. I was just wondering if everyone else find it as annoying, and as it turns out, they do :D
Thursday, March 26th, 2009 12:03 pm (UTC)
If I wanteda Twitter account I would have one. I hate Twitter with a passion. Most of the Twitter feeds I see are random bits of conversations or are apropos of nothing and and make no sense.
Friday, March 27th, 2009 03:38 am (UTC)
I quite like having a twitter account, it lets me express my little random ideas without having to remember them all at once in order to create posts, but the "turning them into posts" process does require some thought and effort since a lot of it is about as interesting out of context as your average line of irc chat.
Friday, March 27th, 2009 03:48 am (UTC)
Which is exactly my issue with it. A post full of:

@somerandom; oh what a shame
"sigh"
@someoneelse: Ha ha

Is not how I want to communicate. If I did I'd have twitter, it's my choice not to have that kind of interaction and I object to having it foisted upon me.

You may be interested in the results of the poll I posted two weeks ago on the same topic.

(Oh, and it's still open if anyone else wants to weigh in)
Thursday, March 26th, 2009 12:55 pm (UTC)
Huh, how did I miss that? *fills out*
Thursday, March 26th, 2009 12:31 pm (UTC)
I find they are often lists of nonscencical stuff that only makes sense to the writer or the person they're speaking to. At least a lot of people on my f-list that do it are kind enough to LJ cut it, but I do just scroll by it all anyway.

I have found a good use for Twitter, and that is role play. My actual real life posts and friends on it are few and far between.
Friday, March 27th, 2009 03:39 am (UTC)
Do you distinguish between them? If not that could be very surreal :D
Friday, March 27th, 2009 09:13 am (UTC)
Yeah, the rps I watch are Batman characters. I also follow the girl who plays Thomas Schiff (and read her LJ), and I myself have an account as Oracle. All the others, I don't know their real life personas.

I posted this on someone else's LJ recently, in response to a similar poll:

I figure if people want to follow me on Twitter they'll either get a Twitter account (60 seconds work to set up then actually reading it) or just subscribe to my Twitter RSS feed (10 seconds work max).

That is to say, I can't logically think of a situation where LoudTwitter doesn't simply end up with the people who wanted to follow my Twitter getting duplicates, and the ones who didn't want to follow my Twitter getting it anyway.

That said, if you want to post it to your LJ for personal record-keeping / information flow purposes, rather than doing it 'for the readers' that's another story entirely.
Friday, March 27th, 2009 03:46 am (UTC)
Yes, I think anyone who wants to read my twitter can do so, especially since a lot of non-twitterers find the format annoying. It's not like I say anything desperately unmissable :)
Thursday, March 26th, 2009 02:17 pm (UTC)
As long as it goes under an lj-cut so I don't have to read it I don't care.

I do not, and have no intention of twittering. Not even to follow Steven Fry
Thursday, March 26th, 2009 02:23 pm (UTC)
He has an LJ feed, anyway.
Friday, March 27th, 2009 03:50 am (UTC)
I spent so long resisting blogs and then lj etc before giving in I now don't bother resisting and join up with twitter/myspace/facebook whatever, but so far none of them have truly stolen my heart from lj :)
Thursday, March 26th, 2009 02:31 pm (UTC)
I ignore all twitter posts.

It's far less annoying if they've been nicely put behind a cut, which seems to be most of them now.

If I wanted to read twitter comments, I'd have a twitter account...
