A Hapless update celebrating the end of MyCoWriMo (also my birthday "picnic" which went pretty well even though we're left with like billion years of Points(tm) worth of food)

So, how was you guys November? (nb by "failed" I mean "Did really badly")

Start of October I began setting myself monthly writing/editing goals. In November I got two and a half items done (out of five). Doesn't sound too good, but in October I only got one thing done, so I think I did okay. =D

Heh, I totally understand that. I mean, some comic writers do a daily comic all year round and actually do it every day, but I don't see that that takes away from my immense achievement :)

I just realised that I should do up December's To Do list.

Can you put Make To Do List on a To Do List, or does that become horribly recursive and end the universe?

"Do proper to do list" is often the first thing on my to do lists, and the universe seems ok so far :)

I did think that aiming to release a commodore 64 demo each week would be a good way to get around to actually finishing some of my half finished odds and sods, but failed to produce anything at all. (Aside from a game preview I entered into a competition earlier this year, I've not released anything since 2004).

Hmm, maybe you should have set yourself the goal of releasing one demo, I like to set goals which are only slightly more taxing than what I usually do or it's all too scary (I could never do nanowrimo for example, with my current rate of one short story draft every 5 years or so...)

Makes sense. I was hoping to force some scope reduction - if I plan a one month project it tends to be overly grandiose. But that's probably putting the cart before the horse; I just need to make more sensible plans in the first place.

Yeah, my Phd was one long process of learning to go from setting the goals I "should" be able to do, to setting goals I was actually capable of (as well as coming to terms with the fact that I'm just not capable of being as productive as I would like. And then trying to explain this to my workaholic supervisor..)

Sounds very worthwhile.

Bastard supervisors. All of them.
