sqbr: And yet all I can think is this will make for a great livejournal entry. (livejournal)

So www.livejournal.com (what I get by clicking "Home") appears to be a single small jpg image of an island or something. What? (Probably is fixed by now, but I felt the need to share) The rest of lj seems ok, specifically the "post an entry" page :)

This is an intermittently edited collection of ideas for a panel on "Feminism and Race" I ran at [livejournal.com profile] femmeconne. As such it's aimed at feminists/women, though anyone else is welcome to read it. I put all the links I found (and there's some really good stuff) in a separate post, since it's important that my argument can stand on its own (I can't give people links in person!)

My plan is was to briefly cover the basic ideas and then get into a moderated discussion where all I'll do is keep things on topic and inject the odd new idea or possible sub-topic, since I'm pretty sure people will have as much to explain to me as vice versa.

EDIT: I discussed what happened at this panel here. Overall it went ok.

Reading She Who Stumbles (which is from everything I've seen is hands down the best blog ever for anyone interested in race and feminism in australia) for my last post, I came across this post :Why I’m not a socialist (any more) - Part 1 (afaict she never got around to part 2. I know what that's like)

And boy could I relate to it. My experience is a bit different, since I was born into a socialist (and semi-socialist) family and have never been really actively engaged as any sort of activist but still. I must print out a copy for my mum (my grandma and dad are rather didactically socialist, it can get a bit oppressive)

EDIT: Flying Blogspot points out that not all socialists are like this, which is true.

That Mitchell and Webb Look: Explorers

Another one of those jokes whose intense appeal to my sense of humour may not be shared by others :)
