Something that [livejournal.com profile] tommmo's post reminded of and I decided not to fill his comments with(*): I really hate plots in modern fiction where it's presented as not that big a deal for an engaged couple to break up before their wedding, but A Huge Deal for them to get divorced. Unless they're particularly religious, a wedding is just a formalisation of an commitment they've already made, so breaking them up just before the ceremony is pretty much equivalent to doing so just afterwards (which is to say, a really big deal).

I do make an exception for "engaged" couples who show no signs of getting married. What I'm complaining about is "guy runs into the church and grabs the girl just before she says 'I do' to the wrong guy" or "Woman dumps wrong guy at altar having suddenly realised she's making a big mistake". I can only think of one film where he is too late and she just divorces the wrong guy and they live happily ever after, and it was a very pleasant surprise :) (I'm not saying which film for spoiler reasons. It's not a very good film on the whole anyway)

I guess some people don't really commit to their partner until the wedding day. Those people are dumb, and I do not wish to see films about them unless they are presented as dumb in the text :P

*is amused by the strange bookend this makes to the "wedding" tag* I think I've been reading too many fantasy rants :)

(*)Just his friends list :)

It was [livejournal.com profile] nico_wolfwood and Enforced Equanamitys wedding yesterday. They got engaged before I and Cam had met and have been forced by circumstances into a long distance relationship for the past nearly 9 years, so it was absolutely wonderful to see them together at last, finally starting their new lives together. Though I will be very sad to lose [livejournal.com profile] nico_wolfwood to her homeland :( Photos will be up eventually, but for now see this lovely shot [livejournal.com profile] distantcam took which captures the moment as the balloons went up and we got to shoot petal cannons at them (they exploded and shot out rose petals! It was awesome)

[livejournal.com profile] nico_wolfwood looked so pretty *sniff*

Also, rather less interestingly, have updated ACOS. From the beggining Cam has been saying he was just waiting for the enivitable moment that the comic turned into furry pron..well this is as close as you're likely to get :P (Visually, anyway, there may be mild sexual refernces in dialogue later on)

I have now run out of scripted pages for some time, I have a couple of mental scripts I came up with while drawing the last few pages, but then a disturbing gap where I know what happens but none of the specifics before I get back to stuff I've scripted. Maybe I should skip over the unscripted stuff and do it in flashback later :D

Right! Now I have the photos I can finally complete the leviathan I've been constructing for the past year or so: Everything you could possibly want to know about our wedding. Includes rejected vendors and reviews. Far too detailed to be interesting to anyone who isn't in the process of planning a wedding :)

Doing a thesis has really exacerbated my tendency to create lists hasn't it?

Also I realise I forgot to say before: thanks to [livejournal.com profile] theducks for taking all but one of the wedding photos, he was just as good as a professional and much cheaper :) (Though he did take a disproportionate amount of shots of [livejournal.com profile] lizbyrd for some reason...) Also thanks to [livejournal.com profile] nico_wolfwood and [livejournal.com profile] mandragora2003 for being great bridesmaids! I'd thank the groomsmen and stuff but they don't read this and I'm sleepy :)

We're back! Basically we got bored of the country and wanted to come home, check our mail, and play with our new appliances like the pathetic, soul-less city folk we are.

That said, we had a fantastic time. Cam has put some photos up here but has yet to go through the hundred gazillion "pretty shot of ocean and/or trees"s. Becuase it was SO PRETTY. On the first day we took the "scenic route" the few km up the coast to the lighthouse on the Indian/Southern ocean border and ended up spending all our time on detours to the Oh So Pretty beachy bits.(*)

I'm such a liar. At the wedding I was going on about how I hate beaches and don't eat chocolate, yet spent the first day gleefully climbing rocks and paddling feet on a beach, and the second eating as many free samples as I could find. More accurately: I don't like beaches unless they have at least one of: islands/sandbanks that I can paddle to, interesting nature, or large smooth rocks I can clamber over. I do like, say, beaches with a natural spring going through a wetland then over a limestone encrusted water wheel, rock pools and lots of big smooth interesting looking granite rocks, with wooded hills behind and rocky islands ahead(**). It's just that when people say "do you want to go to the beach" that's not usually the sort of beach they're talking about. Also they generally expect me to swim, blech.

Also I ate very small samples. It is taking all my will not to devour the small piece of fudge I bought from margaret river.

While we were gone I gained the ability to control animals with my mind (ie we visited a birds-of-prey sancturary. It was cooler than it sounds) Oh, and the post title comes from the name of a restaurant whose menu was in the chalet we rented. We did not try them out :)

We still haven't unpacked, preferring to spend our time playing with the sewing machine.

Anyway, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by all the things I want to do (unpack, answer email, etc) so I may end rather abruptly right.....here.

(*)And then missed the lighthouse tour, decided it was all too much effort and instead went to the equally pretty (in a very different way) Jewel cave.
(**)The sand being in parts glittering with mica and in others red with feldspar and dotted with strange karstic structures like sandstone teeth doesn't hurt either. Heh. First year geology really got under my skin but of course my description may be way off :)

Woot, married :)

Thanks in part to [livejournal.com profile] mandragora2003's lovely spread of healthy lunch while we got ready I felt a lot better as the day progressed, and by evenings end felt no worse than could be expected after a night of talking and chocolate cake.

It was great. Thanks to everyone who came for your lovely and generous presence and your lovely and generous presents. Also thanks to everyone who said nice stuff on my last post. I am So Totally Zonked and have to get ready to leave for our honeymoon in Augusta, should hopefully get around to photos and stuff later.

Teehee. I have a husband :)

Times like this my mum says "clearly God has a sarcastic sense of humour" :/

Still, as long as cold tablets get me to the point of saying my vows and cutting the cake I Just Don't Care. I kind of knew it was going to happen anyway, I always get sick when I stress about an upcoming event. I've gotten better at zen-like peace but really, there's only so much you can do for this sort of thing.

I haven't been in a very post-to-the-interent mood but a few things:

Wedding is in a week and a day OMG! For the many guests who have likely not looked and may have lost their invites: Details here. I realised the pre dinner drinks/nibbles are booked from 5, not 5:30 like it says on the invites, oops. Apologies to those we didn't invite, we're not having an open ceremony, sorry :( I have every intention of throwing a big, open, "Yay we're married!" party at some point but am not going to even think about organising that until after the honeymoon. I couldn't even be bothered with a hens night.

Mostly organised but a few things still need to be done and these niggle away at me.

I ate a whole medium sized easter egg today, it made me remarkably jumpy, but oh it was good.

Currently teaching myself the basics of Tarot with a guide Cam got with a set he bought for gaming. It's not something I believe in(*) but is so prevalent in fantasy and our culture in general I thought it'd be interesting to have a better understanding of. An idea I had: if stuck for the plot of a story, do a tarot reading. The open-ended interpretation and dense imagery seem perfect for germinating plot ideas.

(*)No offense to those who do, I'm skeptical about pretty much everything.

People: you need to RSVP for my dinner thing, if you're going to. Also, it's at 6:30, sorry I forgot to say that before. "I can't come" or "There's a 50% chance of me" are both acceptable answers, I'm just paranoid about over or underbooking. And yes, I have had more than the 2 RSVPs on that post :)

Had a very productive weekend, have put a deposit on the wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses and ordered some furniture (soon our clothes will be in an actual cupboard, all fancy like, rather than boxes as at present) Dresses from Into Camelot.

First off, I ended up being sick for three and a half weeks (!!) so have horribly ignored many people's posts, comments etc. I do care! Really!

I have been converted to the total joy that is rosemary on roast potatoes after eating the ones Katie made at Terracon. She is a culinary queen.

Watched Enterprise with Cam, and it's actually not that bad once you get past the incredibly bad first season, especially in seasons 3 and 4. As in, not that bad for Star Trek. I realised recently that watching Babylon 5 significantly raised my tolerance for superficially crappy tv sf, since underneath the crud lies a really good story. Of course Star Trek is frequently crap all the way down, but now I can enjoy the good bits here and there.

I have been playing Final Fantasy X and really enjoying it, I think partly becuase it's a lot quicker and easier to get into the meat of the story than with the others, and is also very pretty. I find myself liking the somewhat cheesy voiceover, even. Unfortunately my FF8 saves were lost when I discovered that our 8mb ps1 cartridge was not designed for ps2s, and since the fact monsters level up with you takes a lot of the fun out of my level-up-till-you-know-you're-invincible approach I may not get back to it. Anyone got a copy of ff7 I can borrow for a Very Long Time once I'm finished with ffx? (I'm crap at computer games)

Oh! And we've decided on our wedding cake, we're booking them tommorrow. I designed it myself, keeping it a surpise :) (Except from other upcoming bride-to-bes like [livejournal.com profile] nico_wolfwood)

Twice today I've had links to one person's lj take me to someone elses. The first was actually an interesting discussion on linguistics but the second made me briefly worry that [livejournal.com profile] darklion had suddenly become a pink-haired catgirl. Which was a little disturbing.
Anyway, is anyone else having this problem?

Secondly, for those too lazy to follow a link, we've set a date and muchos details of our wedding, more info here.

And while I'm here, happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] infamyanonymous!

Oh: and is anyone interested in making up a hut for terracon? Preferably people I like hanging out with who will facilitate me going to bed early by not being Very Loud at night. And don't mind me eating healthily and not drinking :) I reserve the right to ignore youse all and jump into someone elses hut if it's easier, etc.

EDIT: Do not click on the pink-eared catgirls lj (the post I link to above is ok, but yeah). No really, trust me.
